Childhood Fear

When i was about five years old my greatest fear was the laundry room in my basement. I used to be scared of being left alone in the basement due to the mysterious laundry room. The laundry room was an unfinished, dark room that consisted of a washer, dryer, fridge, and furnace. I used to be able to hear the furnace kick on which sent shivers thought my body. There wasn't anything in particular about the room that i was scared of. I was just scared of the unknown. The possibility that there was something terrible lurking behind the closed door. I used to run up and shut the door real fast when it was left open. I would then proceed to run up the stairs as quick as i could without looking back. I was terrified that something was chasing me up the stairs. My fear relates to the book "Lord of the Flies" in the ideal sense of the unkown. The boys on the island are at constant battle with the unkown. The boys deal with the unkown nearly all the time. They don't know exactly where this beastie lurks or if it is an actual real creature. This fear continues to play a vital factor in the novel and i believe that it will continue until the very end!
